29th Danube Island Festival

The "Donauinselfest" (Danube Island Festival) has become one of the largest open-air festivals in Europe and each year attracts visitors from around the world. Thanks to the commitment of the organizers, the staff and the sponsoring partners, everyone can enjoy this event for free. The fun festival program includes a lively blend of music, dancing, entertainment and sports as well as food and drink stalls. Numerous events for children complete the diverse program.

Sascha Kostelecky, the project manager of the Danube Island Festival, talks about the secret of the success of Europe's biggest open-air festival free of admission:
"Twenty-eight years ago we took the right way. The festival is evaluated each year and steadily grew from a big national Fair into an international music-festival with regional roots."

Performances take place on the festival area at a length of 4.5 km on 11 different open-air stages and in 18 tented areas around the island. Besides local bands and DJs, many world-famous artists have performed since the establishment of the festival in 1984.

This year's festival will take place from the 22th to the 24th of June 2012 and will offer, once again, a fantastic line-up of over 2000 artists and a program that all together offers 600 hours of entertainment. Visitors will have a difficult time choosing which acts to enjoy, as the Danube Island festival program includes rock, pop, alternative, indie, punk, hip hop, oldies, electro, "Volksmusik" and cabaret.

In the run-up to the festival, the "Rock the Island-Contest" will take place for the third time. In the contest, interested people can vote for bands and DJs they wanted to see perform at the Danube Island Festival. The bands or DJs with the most votes will perform live on five of the biggest stages of the Danube festival.
