Waterfront Regeneration in Lisbon - 2014
After a period of two years, the redevelopment works of Avenida da Ribeira das Naus are concluded in Lisbon. The new space was inaugurated on the 13th of July 2014 by the Mayor of Lisbon, being now possible for residents and visitors to enjoy a new leisure area on the city waterfront.
Avenida Ribeira das Naus allows for a renewed connection between Praça do Comércio and Cais do Sodré, through a larger pedestrian path along the bank, a new public garden, a little urban beach, a wide staircase smoothly descending to the river, and also new rules for traffic regulation. After a long period where it seemed almost forgotten by decision makers and city inhabitants, Avenida Ribeira das Naus aims to establish itself as a space where city and river meet again, promising to become one of the most attractive leisure areas of the capital in the very near future.
With the completion of the works a new exhibition, co-organized by EGEAC, was also inaugurated in Praça do Comércio: “Maresias – Lisboa e Tejo, 1850-2014”. Dedicated to the transformations operated on the Lisbon Waterfront for more than a century and a half, the exhibition will be open to the public until December 19th of 2014.
